'... Olio will close ...' |

I wrote to the admins today: 'When an endeavor is speeding up one's death rather than enhancing one's life it should be quit. Olio will close
sometime tomorrow, April 29, 2008.'

Whilst I agree with that sentiment, the action seems rather unfortunate, Robert. I for one am happy to remove my presence if it is even the slightest way a
contributing factor to this place's enhancement of your life.

I guess you couldn't have put it any clearer than that, else you would have.

Jesus, talk about incoherent. That's what happens when you change your mind about what you're going to write but don't make sufficient changes to
the text to match. I of course meant if my presence lessens in anyway the enhancement to your life this place brings.

Dan, I thought it was wonderful that you shared your humour with us. I was looking forward to finally having some friendly conversations about those subjects which mean so much to both of us but they will have to occur elsewhere. Thanks for being here. R. |

Dan, I get the idea that I'm the one who should have made that offer, rather than you. Robby, since my presence seems to be causing you so much distress,
would you like me to leave so that Olio can continue in the way that you would like?

Since hearing of this turn of events this afternoon, I haven't been able to reconcile how to react, rendering me to do nothing. I still have a litany of
feelings, sadness being one of the most dominant. I have enjoyed tremendously sharing all the humour at Olio. I have never seen another board like it, it's
low traffic notwithstanding.
I have reason to believe that I have contributed as much as anyone to Robby's distress that led him to his ultimate decision. He was too kind to speak up at a time when it may have made a difference. Had this passive aggressive fuck been a man and approached me with his concerns, perhaps solutions could have been explored and we would not be where we are now. In any case, I too would be willing to leave Olio so that Robert and others may continue here. In fact, I invite everyone who has ever posted here to also offer up their exile so that Robert may keep the board open for his personal enjoyment. This whole post is a sham. Well, not all of it--only the part about Robert being a fuck. My fondness for him and appreciation of his many good qualities and talents has grown during the entire time (over five years, I'm sure) I've known him. Yes, sadness dominates my feelings right now, but making light of this sombre situation is, I think, appropriate, given my dedication to humour, even if inept at it. My future online activities are currently in limbo and I may not ever "see" (m)any of you again. I do, however, want to say that I have enjoyed interacting with virtually everyone who posted here, even if it may not have seemed so.

Asplagis posted a message over at VALIS regarding Olio's impending demise. I haven't been here often in recent years, (not that I've been at VALIS
much either), but it's sad to see it go.

I'm fairly sure it's impossible to do Olio justice with a single post, or even a single Inappropriate Image, worth a thousand words and three hundred
lulz.
As Robert said, it's time to go. It's a hard thing to accept because I love Olio so much, but the thing that has always made up Olio is its people. vinny, I really hope you keep in touch because as I hope you know we're sort of fond of you All this offering to leave is admirable, but in the end we all will anyway, at least except for Cletus Goodyear who will have been squatting in the place all along.
Prepare for
disappointment!

"I invite everyone who has ever posted here to also offer up their exile so that Robert may keep the board open for his personal enjoyment." RL a) I [sear] offer my exile for the benefit of this cyber community. And while I can remove this site's bookmark from my browser, because I administer another Yuku site, I frequently explore other sites, in Yuku and beyond. For that reason, if my departure is deemed a benefit, all that I would ask in return is that my pseud be permanently banned here, so that in the years ahead if in a lapse of my memory or my usage of unclear link, I do not cyber-return here against my own intentions. b) While my opinion has not been solicited: "Olio will close sometime tomorrow, April 29, 2008." RL I do know what the issue is for which this administrative action is the appropriate remedy. But I doubt that applies here. Thus it seems to me to be a flagrant over-reaction; and I'm guessing a temperamental one. Locking the site (shutting it down) is easy. But it's not so much dealing with the problem as avoiding dealing with the problem. Wouldn't it be more mature, more sensible to identify the problem, identify the cause of the problem, and address that directly? Suit yourselves. I'm just the nubie here. I don't know what the issue is. If I did, the proposed -solution- might make more sense to me (but I doubt it).

Sear,
Since you operate a message board you know there can be many reasons a board closes. You have been presumptuous in labeling this '... a flagrant over-reaction' and then attributing it to temperament. Are you relying on my thinking here in any way at all? Since you are not, which is to say you are talking out of your ass, we are free to end with, 'Thanks so much for sharing your valuable opinion.' |

Why play so coy RL?
Why not post a link or links to the problem or problems? If I can find you a solution less destructive to the community than shutting it down, wouldn't you prefer to consider your entire suite of options, rather than simply nuking it? "You have been presumptuous ..." RL I've open-mindedly made a few rational deductions. The easiest way for you to prove me wrong is to post the links, or in whatever other way is appropriate, disclose the details with sufficient specificity to facilitate appropriate corrective action. But if that's too threatening to you, if you'd prefer the comfort that "you are talking out of your ass" provides you, go with that. Either way, best of luck to you. |

Goodnight, godbless, and remember the inappropriate images in all it's feckless splendor!
RL Olio was wonderful while it lasted but nothing lasts forever, nor should it. Except cockroaches, rats, and maybe twinkies. Loved board-ing with you all. XOXO, Capitan Juggs

I will miss this board quite a bit. Great times and good people. Don't hesitate to open it again if you change your mind in the future. You will be
surprised how quickly people will come back; I know I will. Thanks for running a great board.

Sammy,
It could actually be confirmed in chat transcripts although not if Sear asks to see them, and he can't, that several times I worried about not having more for you to read and answer. Noting it reflects my respect and appreciation for you. Thanks. Robert |
