A couple of clarifications are in order.
When I say "rotten Dan Rowden's remarks", I'm not saying that Dan Rowden is rotten. I'm saying that his remarks are. And when I'm saying "his remarks", I'm not saying that those remarks belong entirely -- or originated entirely -- with the entity usually referred to as "Dan Rowden". A lot of the credit for authorship of those remarks undoubtedly belongs to those who shaped Dan's early views of the world. He was led to believe that any praise -- particularly for members of the opposite sex -- is a sign of weakness. Hence his reluctance to say anything positive about Dr. Phil ( or anybody else I can recall ). If there's anything on record in that regard, I'll be glad to stand corrected. Since I don't share Dan's reluctance, I'll say this: Dan is a great guy. ***- not as great as Robert or Vinny, though... but he could be... <sigh> -*** Flattery is not always hypocritical. And flattery is often more effective at persuasion than mockery. |

The Truth is that while Totality of thought solves a host of problems, it presents a whole new set...many of which are evident in your writings. This is one of them.

I lived most of my life as an average schmuck, Ducky. I don't need to imagine being in those shoes. It's
part of the reason that I know what is possible for people if they simply placed more value on thought, instead of pathetically resigning themselves to a fate
that needn't be, as Vinny would seemingly have them do.

Vinny hacked his way through a concept:
It is not merely my opinion of people's capabilities. It is a fact that most people are offended by insults. Sorry if that's too challenging a concept for you. Clearly, if it weren't a "fact" that people are offended by insults then I wouldn't have written a single word in this thread, now, would I? My entire viewpoint is predicated on this nifty "fact". People like you have been advocating thought for millenia, and yet here we are with most people still having their feelings hurt by insults. So what? Some people benefit from thinking about matters. Do you want to deny that to them? Should I shut up about it then? I mean, what the fuck is wrong with you, man? If one person gets past their suffering in this matter then my words and - gasp - thoughts, have been worthwhile. Give it up and join the real world. I'd respond to that but I don't want to be offensive and disturb your sensibilities. |

Should I shut up about it then? If one person gets past their suffering in this matter then my words and - gasp - thoughts, have been worthwhile. Why, yes--you should shut up about it. Do you think you're presenting something new and improved? The majority of people can't help but feel badly when insulted and for you to operate without regard to this nifty fact does more damage than good. Your ideas of getting past suffering are more widely viewed as "suffering". I'd respond to that but I don't want to be offensive and disturb your sensibilities. Not much Truth in that: 1. You already insulted me more than once in your last response. 2. Your presence alone disturbs my sensibilities. Unfortunately, the only way to "fix" you is for us to be in the same place. Robert and I have a bet, Liza.

Vinny, if you mean "fix" as in what one does to a cat or a dog to keep it from reproducing, then I imagine that Dan would welcome that fix. He
doesn't seem to want to even copulate, let alone reproduce. I didn't realise that you had surgical skills though. Perhaps you meant that you'd
escort him to the operating theatre.

The vast majority of people think and experience all sorts of things, many of them wrong and needlessly self-damaging. I care about that. Plus you're just repeating the same obvious fact that I already said underpins my entire view of the matter. Do you think it will make more sense if you keep repeating it? You have yet to make any case for the view that people can't help but be that way. Since not all people are that way, it follows that there's a possibility there for everyone. You seem to want to discourage people from exploring it. I don't get it. It's really just because I give you the shits, right? i.e. I'll always get a contrary view from you just because it's me, right? Your ideas of getting past suffering are more widely viewed as "suffering". I find your defeatist philosophy of resignation sad. I guess we should stop advocating for peace since that's been happening for millenia and there's still violence. Same for justice etc etc etc. |

Laird, the surgery I mean to perform here takes place on an organ that may very well have less mileage on it than the one you 're thinking of. I believe the above is acceptable given that Dan declares he is above being moved by pixel patterns. I, however, do not waive my right to be treated with

Vinny pixelated:
Are you trying to say you're altruistic? Or have you come up with a different name for what you claim to be doing? I call it existing. That's all it takes to act upon one's inclinations, values and goals. It's kinda hard to do otherwise. Whatever it is, it would be more effective if you didn't do it in a condescending manner. On the other hand, I can be a prick about it--I don't have the burden that comes with claiming to be enlightened. And I don't have the burden of conforming to your distorted notions about what it means to be such. But I agree you can be a prick. But the real question is, can you not? The vast majority of people think that what you think and experience are wrong and that espousing those ideas can needlessly damage others. I care about that. The vast majority of people, much like yourself, actually have little idea of what I think or experience. If the vast majority of people wish not to explore an avenue of thought by which they can liberate themselves from the suffering of insult and offense, then that's their prerogative. It's also my prerogative to not care to listen to or concern myself with their subsequent moral bellyaching about it. |

I call it existing. That's all it takes to act upon one's inclinations, values and goals. It's kinda hard to do otherwise.Almost everyone exists. Not everyone offers up anything to those who suffer, as you say you do. It is more than simply existing. But you go ahead and keep denying altruism exists if it helps you support your distorted notions about what it means to be such. The vast majority of people, much like yourself, actually have little idea of what I think or experience. Then you're doing a miserable job of 'splainin' it, Ricky, considering how much time you've spent doing it. If you're suggesting it is because most people lack the intellect to understand it, you might want to consider an alternative explanation: They get it, but don't think much of it. If the vast majority of people wish not to explore an avenue of thought by which they can liberate themselves from the suffering of insult and offense, then that's their prerogative.Or they have explored it and found it to have the same texture as horse manure. It's also my prerogative to not care to listen to or concern myself with their subsequent moral bellyaching about it.I don't think so. I mean it is your prerogative, but I don't think you choose not to listen to it. You choose to listen to quite a bit of what you refer to as moral bellyaching.
